Commentary Supposing Books The Street Lawyer
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. law firm with eight hundred lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was three years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this man? Michael did some digging, and learned that he was a mentally ill veteran who'd been in and out of shelters for many years. Then Michael dug a little deeper, and found a dirty secret, and the secret involved Drake & Sweeney.
The fast track derailed; the ladder collapsed. Michael bolted the firm and took a top-secret file with him. He landed in the streets, an advocate for the homeless, a street lawyer.
And a thief.

People here claiming a white upper class lawyer (from Yale remember) in the 1990s is racist because he (Michael Brock, the character remember, not the author John Grisham) noted how basketball was popular and Washington D.C. jails and juries would be majority black, need to have their SJW cards revoked and get off their high horse and soapboxes. It continues to amaze me the incompetence of readers and lacking insight and nuance. If you can't handle facts even today in your snowflakey world thenIf I had to describe "The Street Lawyer" in one word, the word I would choose is propaganda. It tells the tale of a yuppie lawyer named Michael Brock who reorders his priorities in life after he's held hostage by a homeless man for an afternoon. He quits his high-paying job even though he's only a couple of years from making partner - and goes to work for a free legal clinic that helps the homeless. He thinks his old firm was partially responsible for the deaths of a homeless family, so he
Another JG masterpiece....Sometimes tense, sometimes heartwarming, always a page turner. The setting is Washington D.C. (the district) with focus on an old and very large, prestegious D.C. law firm. One of the staff, young attorney Michael Brock, is onto the firm's misbehavior and does some digging on his own. His actions are not without potentially severe consequences as well. Michael, who will soon be going through his own divorce, seeks counsel from the local 'homeless' lawyer's office. His
You spend more on fancy coffee than I do on meals. Why cant you help the poor, the sick, the homeless? John Grisham, The Street LawyerThis book was so very good. I am a big Grisham fan but certain books are better then others and this one was near flawless.I liked the lead character, Michael very much and loved the story line. It is a page turner from start to finish and I loved that the homeless angle was flawlessly woven into the story line. Some things never change..some bad guys, a nasty law
A big shot young lawyer leaving behind one hell of a fortune - from a million dollar antitrust lawyer to a mere thousands dollar street lawyer- to fight for the betterment of homeless. The story couldn't be better!Unputdownable.
